Water colour persists its working directly from nature and continues to be a medium that lends itself readily to the painting on the spot, apart from its real intention of observing the multiple aspects of nature. A reasonable convincing watercolour can be created in studio, if only long hours of outdoor study are done. An artist will find the information he has acquired with heavier medium very useful in water colour painting, if he had worked with oils. There can be good assistance for the painter, if the painter has experience in composition and drawing and the training of the eyes to see colour.  But there are some techniques, which can assist a painter to make water colour painting more generous.

Paint Wet-On-Wet
If the painter has a tendency to be tight while painting with water colours, painting directly on already wet surface will permit the work to look softer and run more freely. For background or for the first step, the wet on wet technique will result in soft edges, which permits the colour to blend. The edges will become more defined, as the painter will keep the paper dry.

Adding Ink To Colours
An artist needs to mix a lot of media with the watercolour. One such media can be body colour. To create new colours, one can mix any water colour with white gouache which is opaque water colour paint. There can be variety of dissimilar transparencies, which will be seen with use of gouache. While some areas will be opque, some will be transparent.

Splashing Water
The paint will begin to move on its own, thus forcing the painter to let go of a bit more organize over the finished result, once the painting is splashed with water. With a stiff brush, a painter can brush them off and water once they are dry or one can dry the areas while they are still wet.

Experiment With New Support
Basically, any hold up that provides a bit of water resistance will provide some generous unexpected textures and permit the paint to move freely. This can be done by using a medium on paper or board or by preparing the water resistance support.

Telling A whimsical Story
In order to make the portraits interesting, this is a very great way. The painter should image himself as a director or story writer and tell the viewers a story through the painting. The painting should be titled in such way, so that views can get an insight of the story.

Incorporate Drawing In Painting
An artist need have to paint always. At any time, he can just draw on the painting. The painter can use light wash on the areas, which he wanted to draw and then can use crayons to provide more life to the painting.

Dripping Of The Paint
This is kind of magic which the artist can create with the watercolour painting. It will make the viewer feel that some parts of the painting are still unpainted. This can also create a 3D image in front of eyes of the viewer. This will also give the viewers the impression that the painting is done by done, starting with white paper.

Accentuate A Few Edges
The process of accentuating can provide a nice touch of graphic to the painting. The painter can use bold colours at background and then paint the top layer, thus creating a nice effect.
